“The Art of Death & Dying” is co-sponsored by the Blaffer Art Museum, Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts, Department of Hispanic Studies, Honors College, and School of Art, as well as two community partners, the National Museum of Funeral History and Preservation Houston.

Papers will be presented in the fields of architecture and landscape architecture, art criticism and theory, art history, cultural studies, dance, film and television, literature and music.  Some papers will be presented in Spanish.  Speakers include scholars, graduate students and authors from five continents.

In addition to the 57 juried presenters, the program includes invited speakers, a music recital, tours of historic Houston cemeteries and two museums, an artist’s talk with Dario Robleto, a film screening and a gallery talk.

Registration is $50 and $20 for students.  The registration fee includes the cost of breakfast and lunches during the symposium.
