The UH Library Catalog will be unavailable on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 between 8:00pm and 11:00pm for scheduled maintenance.  Remote access to Electronic Resources will be unavailable while maintenance is underway.

Summer Book Club will read Divakaruni novel and Patti Smith memoir

The University of Houston Libraries and the Women’s Resource Center will co-sponsor their third annual Summer Book Club this year.  The club is open to all UH affiliates, faculty, staff, and students.  The group will meet in the Women’s Resource Center (now located on the second floor of the University Center) at noon on June 16th to discuss UH creative writing professor Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’s novel Sister of my Heart.  Light refreshments will be provided.  Readers will gather again at noon on July 23rd to discuss Patti Smith’s memoir Just Kids which recounts her life with artist Robert Mapplethorpe in New York during the late sixties.  Ms. Smith recently spoke and performed on campus in the Cullen Performance Hall.

The UH Libraries will provide copies of both books on a first come, first served basis.  To inquire about borrowing one or both titles, contact the Women’s, Sexuality, and Gender Studies Librarian Catherine Essinger at cwessinger@uh.edu.  For questions about the book club and other Women’s Resource Center programs, contact Beverly McPhail at  bmcphail@uh.edu.

Pharmacy Library to close

At the request of the Dean of Pharmacy, the Pharmacy Library will be closed at the end of business Friday, May 14. The collection, computers, and furniture will be relocated to M.D. Anderson with the move scheduled for completion by May 28.

This request was based on the College of Pharmacy’s need for space. The quality of service provided by the Pharmacy Library staff was acknowledged to be excellent by the Dean, the faculty, and the students.

Derral Parkin will continue as liaison to the College of Pharmacy.
