NEW 1955 Houstonian Yearbook Video
The University of Houston 1955 Yearbook staff undertook the task of creating a 45 rpm vinyl record to accompany the printed yearbook. Their innovative idea was to produce “Á yearbook with sound”. They gathered together recording experts from KUHT-TV and KUHF-FM, Band Leader Ed Gerlach and his orchestra, and “the voice of the idea” Jack Bailey.
Katie Buehner, Music Librarian and I built upon the work of the yearbook staff by creating a video from the digitized recording and images from the printed yearbook.

Wiley Online Library scheduled maintenance
Wiley Online Library announces scheduled maintenance on Sunday, December 19, 2010 beginning at 4:00am. Wiley expects their Web site to be down for approximately 2 hours.
JSTOR Platform Change
The JSTOR Platform is changing Saturday, December 18th. Some of the new features will be:
- A wider range of content formats, including full-text HTML for some journals and downloadable PDFs for all current journal issues
- Multimedia files for some journals
- New personalization features, including the ability to register for Table of Contents (TOC) emails and alerts when new content matches saved search terms
- New informational pages for the titles participating in the Current Scholarship Program
During the Platform change, JSTOR expects intermittent downtime but is not planning on taking their Web site down fully.
Call for artists
The University Libraries is now accepting artwork for its fourth Annual Student Art Exhibit, a competitive juried exhibit that will be on display in the M.D. Anderson Library February – April 2011. Jurors will include curators from the Menil Collection and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, as well as prominent members of the Houston arts community and UH School of Art faculty.
The exhibit is open to UH students of any classification or major. Students are welcome to submit multiple entries. See the requirements on the Call for Artists poster below.
Students should submit their work to the Architecture and Art Library, located in the College of Architecture. Artists must complete a waiver form, as well as an exhibition agreement for each work.
