UH Special Collections Interactive Exhibit
The University of Houston Libraries Special Collections utilized iPads to enhance a display at a recent UH Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies event, marking a milestone in the Libraries’ continual efforts to expand access to collections.
In the pop-up exhibit held alongside the event, Samina Ali on Muslim Women and Digital Activism, Christian Kelleher, head of Special Collections, and archivist Vince Lee, archivist of the Carey C. Shuart Women’s Archive and Research Collection, introduced the iPad app that allowed users to interact with audio and video files housed in Special Collections.
The app supplemented physical materials also on display at the event. It is the first such instance of the Libraries’ use of interactive exhibits and digital interfaces that bring the exploration of unique collections to a wider audience.
