On The Road Again…
After the overview of the shift of the A’s The Big Shift has resumed.
Our highest B call number book moved to 8 Blue is: B59.C839.
Our highest B call number Bound Journal moved to the basement’s Gold wing is: B2550.S8.

The Official Book Truck of The Big Shift
While we plan on using all available book trucks to make this move happen quickly, only one can be the official book truck. Here it is without any bells, whistles, accoutrement, or additional pimping!
It has 6 wheels, 4 shelves and goes from 0 to 60 as quickly as you can push it off the roof.! I have a feeling we’ll be seeing the tricked out model very soon.
On the level
The floor in Area F is not level - some spots are much higher than others. To even this out, grout was used to build up the rails in the low spots.
It took 30 buckets of grout at 50 lbs per bucket to get the area level - roughly 1500 lbs of grout!
Area F - An Overview
The first section of compact shelving that was completed in the basement is actually the last part of the project design, hence its codename “Area F”. It houses our government documents and TX documents collection. Because the M.D. Anderson Library has been a Federal Depository Library since 1957, we get a ton of publications from the Government Printing Office (GPO). Tons of publications translates into the need for tons of storage space.

A short break…
Now that we are finished with the A’s, it’s time to check our work. You only move 2,000,000+ books once - if you do it the right way!
Later this week, I’ll start adding more content to this blog. I have plenty of before and after photos, plus a few facts and figures I can throw around.
The A’s are cleared out
All of the A’s, both books and Bound Journals, have been moved off 5 blue.
We went a bit farther for the Bound Journals. Thus our highest call number
Bound Journal moved to the basement’s Gold wing is: B1.A8. Some of those
Bound Journals may remain on trucks overnight but they are lined up in front
of their new location.

I expect that we will have all of the A’s, both books and Bound Journals,
moved off 5 blue by some time post 5pm today or by noon Thursday.
