P-PA now are on the 4th floor of the blue wing.

A few more Z Bound Journals have been moved to the basement.

The updated call number guide is being distributed.

P-PA currently reside in the 4th floor brown wing. Over this summer they will be moved forward into the blue wing on that floor.

This will allow better accommodation of previous sets of branch library materials that moved to the MD Anderson library. It will also make for more even space utilization across the whole 4th floor.

Completed. As of 7/23/12 all P & PA books are on 4 Blue. That makes 4 Blue’s call number run equal P-PN.

The basement is back to normal. All effects of the 1-9-12 water intrusion have been repaired. All basement collections are open to public browsing.

All repair work for the basement is complete. After contractors tidy up the full basement will be open to the public.

On January 9, 2012 the heavy rains caused a water intrusion into the basement of the M.D. Anderson library. Recovery work is underway.

The basement is partially open now. From the classrooms to Shelving Services the carpeted area is open to the public.

The rest of the basement is staff access only. See staff for item retrieval from the blocked off areas.

The TR-TX collection was formerly located on the 5th floor Brown Wing due space constraints on lower floors.

TR-TX Bound Journals are moving to the basement. This move will be completed in the late afternoon of 1/5/12 or in the morning of 1/6/12.

All shifting into & out of the 2nd floor brown wing is complete. Thus it is occupied by books of call numbers QM-TK7804.9.

The empty shelving at the ends of the wing will later be removed to allow for more study space.

The ‘Fun’ part for the 2nd floor brown wing is that a large part of it is flipping over into the new order but staying within the 2nd floor brown wing. After its Bound Journals were extracted the books are not moving terribly far. About 25% went to the 2nd floor blue wing. The rest of the books are moving within 2 brown so that they match the new call number wrap for the building. Now it will be clockwise instead of the old counterclockwise way.

So the first call number will be about where the last was and the last will be near where the first used to be. The space freed up by The Big Shift makes the beginning of this flip in order easy. The really fun part is when the extra space is used up and books are stuck in their old location because the new spot is filled with books still in their old spot. Think of a game of musical chairs.

The enabler for working through that, our extra chair for when the music stops, is the segment of evacuated shelving at the end of the wing. This segment will later be taken down to provide more study space, but for now it temporarily holds some books while the new call number wrap is accomplished.

*This work includes 5th brown wings materials of the S call numbers. Years ago S was moved to the 5th floor brown wing due to space issues. Thus The Big Shift is fixing that kink in the building’s call number wrap.

All non-Reference materials brought to MD Anderson library after the colsure of the Pharmacy branch library have been integrated with MD Anderson’s general and Bound Journal collections.

Ex-Pharmacy Reference items are being relabelled and will be integrated into the general collection as the processes of The Big Shift permit.
