Problems Reported When Using Direct Export with EBSCO Databases

There are problems being reported with exporting records from EBSCO databases to EndNote Web or RefWorks. This is a problem with Ebsco’s software and the fix is estimated to be completed on Friday.

You can try a manual text file import, or wait until the fix has been applied and the functionality has been restored.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely

Web Tutorial for EndNote

Hi all,

One of my colleagues sent me this link: http://www.hsl.unc.edu/Services/Tutorials/ENDNOTE/intro.htm to an excellent tutorial on EndNote. If you’ve found other tutorials you’d like to share, email me and I’ll add them to the list.

Have a great weekend!

Importing and Exporting Records

You can easily move records between EndNote libraries by using standard copy and paste functions.

1. Select the records you wish to copy (hint: hold the CTRL key down while clicking your mouse to select multiple records).
2. Press CTRL + C or select “Copy” from the Edit menu.
3. Open the EndNote library where you will put the copied records.
4. Press CTRL + V or select “Paste” from the Edit menu.

There are additional options for importing and exporting records available under the File menu in EndNote.

Best,

Lee

Importing Records from WilsonWeb Databases

To import records from WilsonWeb databases, make sure you have the latest WilsonWeb filter file, available from the EndNote website:

1. Go to: http://www.endnote.com/support/enfilters.asp
2. From the Sort Options list, select “Wilson,” then click “Filter Files.”
3. Save the file to: C:\Program Files\EndNote\Filters on your hard drive.

This should fix any import problems with Wilson databases. If you have difficulties importing from Wilson databases, please contact me.

Best,

Lee

Updated How-To Guides

I have updated my EndNote guides to include information on the latest versions of EndNote (X, X1 and X2) and Microsoft Word (2007). They will also work with EndNote 8 or 9 and Word 2003.

Entering References into EndNote
Importing References From A Database
Inserting References Into WORD Documents

I hope you find them useful. If you or your study group would like instruction on EndNote, please contact me.

EndNote Web Available

University of Houston students and faculty can now use a web-based version of EndNote! My EndNote Web lets you track citations and insert them into your papers with ease. Bibliographies formatted in APA, MLA or Chicago styles are just a few clicks away!

To get started with EndNote Web:

  1. Go to Web of Science. If you are off-campus, you will need your PeopleSoft ID or UH Libraries’ barcode to authenticate.
  2. Click the “My EndNote Web” link at the top of the screen
  3. If you already have a Web of Science account, log in; otherwise, click the “Register” link.
  4. Complete the registration form process to activate your account.

Once you’ve authenticated through the UH Libraries and created your EndNote Web account, you can go directly to the site in the future.

Look for more information on this site, along with new classes and tutorials on EndNote Web in the fall. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Lee
