EndNote and ERIC Documents
In a previous post, I alerted EndNote users to some formatting problems with ERIC documents when using the APA output style. A helpful reader sent me the following email over the holidays (excerpted below):
"…a better solution might be to modify one of the unused reference types. I created a reference type called "ERIC document" (http://www.library.ubc.ca/hss/endnote/reftype.html). Then I edited its template under the "APA 5th" style to reflect the proper formating – Author. (Year). Title| (|)|. City|: Institution|. (ERIC Document Reproduction Service No. Accession Number)."
This should work for most users when creating bibliographies that have ERIC documents listed in them and is an easier, one-time solution.
NOTE: If you choose to create your own ERIC document reference type as described above, you will need to manually change the reference type of any imported ERIC document citations from "Report" to "ERIC Document," (or whatever name you have given the new reference type) once you import them, in order to properly output the references.
I can also recommend visiting http://www.library.ubc.ca/hss/endnote/index.htm for additional helpful information and guides to using EndNote. Most of the guides will work with EndNote X as well.
My thanks to the blog reader who took the time to email me and recommend this course of action.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Lee
