Summer Book Club is back

The Summer Book Club is back!  We will be reading Jasmine by Bharati Mukherjee this month.  Afterwards we will meet in the Women’s Resource Center at noon on Wednesday, June 26th to socialize and discuss the book. (The Women’s Resource Center is located on the second floor of the UC, beside the bank.)  Bring a brown bag lunch and we’ll provide the drinks and desserts.  All students, staff, faculty and alumni are welcome to participate.  Contact Catherine Essinger at cwessinger@uh.edu if you wish to borrow a copy of the book from the UH Libraries.  Summer Book Club is jointly sponsored by the UH Libraries and the Women’s Resource Center.

Jasmine is the story of Jyoti, a young woman who leaves her native India for America, where she twice reinvents herself, eventually settling in rural Iowa with the name “Jane Ripplemeyer.”  The New York Time Book Review praised it as, “One of the most suggestive novels we have about what it is to become an American.”
