ScienceDirect Scheduled Downtime
On Sunday, November 7th, and Saturday, November 13, ScienceDirect will be down for scheduled maintenance. You will be unable to connect to any ScienceDirect ejournal during these times. Electronic Resources Certificate Errors
Electronic Resources certificate errors have been fixed.
Certificate Error with Electronic Resources
Currently, several electronic resources are experiencing certificate errors when trying to connect. We are working on correcting this problem. In the mean time, you can still connect to the resources, even though you are getting an untrusted connection error since the resources available through the library do not contain security risks.
In Firefox, click “I Understand the Risks” -> Add exception -> on the bottom left of the “Add Security Exception” pop-up window UNCHECK the “Permanently store this exception” -> Click “Confirm Security Exception”
In IE, click “Continue to this website (not recommended)”
If using Safari, please switch to either Firefox or IE until we get the certificate error fixed.
IEEE Xplore Mobile gets new features
Have you tried the IEEE Xplore Mobile platform yet? It’s available through http://m.ieeexplore.ieee.org on your mobile device, and it has just come out of beta. Searches will get you abstracts and the option to email yourself a link to the article for viewing later on the full IEEE Xplore site. Also, since UH now authenticates by IP address, if you access the IEEE Xplore Mobile site via UH Wireless, you can view full-text PDFs right on your device.

Informaworld scheduled downtime
Informaworld will be down on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 from 2AM-4AM. Users will be unable to connect to electronic journals on the Informaworld platform during that time. Access will be restored after the scheduled maintenance is complete.

Chi Omega Fraternity supports the Learning Commons
The University of Houston chapter of Chi Omega has pledged to make a $25,000 donation to the M.D. Anderson Library at the University of Houston. The gift will be finalized this fall with a naming ceremony planned in the Library. All actives and alumnae of the UH chapter will be invited, along with UH dignitaries and invited guests.
A collaborative learning space within the Learning Commons will be named in honor of the Chi Omega chapter at UH. The Learning Commons is an area in the library where the newest and most robust hardware and software is concentrated in an incredibly accessible and visible part of the library.
The Chi Omega Fraternity has been on the UH campus since Febuary 4, 1956. Over many years, generations of UH Chi Omegas have been contributing to a fund that was intended to honor the University of Houston. As the fund reached a meaningful amount and the university neared some significant historical milestones, the chapter decided it was time to make this gift, which supports one of our key purposes, sincere learning and creditable scholarship.
